In this article, I will take you through all the five packages in details revealing their prices and the music they contain.

I will also take through the complete process of buying a new Spotify package and how to pay for Spotify packages using M-Pesa.

Spotify Free Package

Spotify has a free package for all the customers who can’t afford the paid Spotify packages. This Spotify package however has some limitations to the subscriber and this is the main reason why many subscribers prefer the paid Spotify packages to free package.

Disadvantages of Spotify free package

• This Spotify package has compulsory audio ads between the music/podcasts
• The audios under this package are of low quality 128 kbps on desktop and 160 kbps on mobile App
• One can skip only up to six songs in an hour
• Spotify doesn’t allow you to add/remove music from your playlist freely
• You cannot save songs to listen when you are offline
• You can only shuffle play music which grants Spotify the full control over your playlist

To subscribe for this plan, you are required to have a corporate student email from a recognized university, college or any other institution of higher learning.

This package is also known as Spotify premium individual package. This is the cheapest package for all subscribers who are not students at any institution of higher learning. This package goes for KSH. 299 a month and it has every feature that the students package has with the difference being only on price.

Spotify Duo package is a special package for two Spotify premium subscribers who would like merging their accounts. These might be family members, lovers, friends, roommates or siblings. The accounts will be merged however everyone will have their unique suggestions, playlists, profile, and login details. This package goes for KSH. 389 per month.

This package is cheap as compared to two people owning a premium subscription each costing KSH. 299 monthly which totals up to KSH. 598 a month. By merging your accounts you will both save around KSH. 100 each, that is when you will be sharing the cost. But you can as well let your boyfriend sort the payment like mine always do.

This is the highest Spotify package. It goes for KSH. 479 a month and is the most recommended package for subscribers with family. This package has up to six premium accounts with everyone having their individual libraries, recommendations and their unique features.

Spotify Prepaid plans

Apart from the monthly subscriptions which can sometimes be unreliable for those who doesn’t earn monthly, there are also prepaid services through which one can pay after every seven days, one month, three months, six months or even one year. This packages can also be easily bought through M-Pesa which is the most reliable method of payment in Kenya.

These plans are only available for the individual premium package for now. Spotify is yet to form the prepaid plans for other packages.

• M-Pesa electronic payment

How to pay for Spotify packages in Kenya through M-Pesa

You can pay for Spotify in Kenya through M-Pesa in two ways, first through the newly launched M-Pesa global pay or through the M-Pesa electronic payment method which has been there for quite some time now.

To pay through the global pay method, you will have to download the M-Pesa app from Google play store and register for the global pay services.

You will be issued with a virtual debit card which you can use to pay for Spotify packages and other online services like Netflix, showmax, YouTube premium and many more.

To pay through the electronic way, you will be required to log in to your Spotify account and move to payment, on the payment options choose M-Pesa and proceed to enter your M-Pesa number.

You will be required to choose your preferred package and a pop up message will appear on your phone (on the number you have entered) requesting you to enter your M-Pesa pin to authorize the transaction.

Once you have entered your pin, the amount will be automatically deducted from your M-Pesa account and the payment will be automatically updated on your Spotify account.
