How to apply for Smart Driving License online in Kenya 2022

To apply for a smart driving license online in Kenya, you will need the following;

• National ID number

• Phone number

• KRA pin

• KSH. 3,050 in your M-Pesa account

• Account on NTSA’s TIMS portal

First you will need to create an account on NTSA’s TIMS portal if you don’t have an account already, the process of creating a TIMS account is very simple and absolutely free online. If you already have a functional TIMS account then it is very simple, all you have to do is just log in to your TIMS account using your login details.

Smart driving license in Kenya

After creating/logging in to your TIMS account, click the Driving license tab at the top of the navigation bar to begin the process of applying for a new smart driving license. A new tab will open and you will see a blue button with SMART Driving License inscribed in it, click on that button and it will lead you to a new tab.

In this new tab, you will be required to fill in your details. These are the details that you will be required to fill in; ID number, phone number and KRA PIN. Enter these details correctly as they appear on your official documents.

After entering the above details correctly, you will then be required to select your suitable appointment center, the date and the time you wish to reserve. Appointment center is the place where you will meet NTSA officials. Therefore consider the distance when choosing your suitable appointment center.

When picking up the appointment center online, the available slots will be marked in white while the spaces that have already been booked will be marked in red.

After booking the appointment center, print out the appointment slip as you will require it when you will be going for the appointment.

On the day of the appointment, visit the NTSA office you selected when booking the appointment armed with your official documents and KSH. 3,050 deposited in your M-Pesa account.

While there, log in to your TIMS account with the help of an NTSA agent you will find there and verify you’re your details in the portal. An NTSA agent will be present to guide in this step.

After verifying your details in the portal, you will proceed to pay KSH. 3,050 to NTSA through M-Pesa paybill you will be issued with at the office. Remember that NTSA does not accept cash payment.

Your passport photo will be taken alongside your biometric data, signature and your blood group after which you will be issued with a digital driving license.
